The German national soccer team has won its test match in England 1-0. In the friendly match on Tuesday evening at the Wembley Stadium in London, Chelsea player Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute.
For national coach Hansi Flick, who took over the DFB team after the European Championship, it was the first game in charge. Flick made seven changes to the starting lineup compared to the last game under Löw at the European Championship. Among others, Joshua Kimmich, Ilkay Gündogan and Thomas Müller were back in the starting lineup.
The German team started the game well and had the first chances. In the 10th minute, Serge Gnabry had a good chance to open the scoring, but his shot went just wide. England then came into the game better and had some good chances themselves. In the 25th minute, Raheem Sterling had a good chance to score, but his shot was saved by Manuel Neuer.
In the second half, Germany continued to press for the opening goal. In the 72nd minute, Kai Havertz was finally successful. After a cross from Joshua Kimmich, Havertz headed the ball into the net from close range.
In the remaining minutes, England tried to equalize, but the German team defended well and secured the 1-0 victory. For Germany, it was the first win in England since 2013.
Hansi Flick was satisfied with the performance of his team after the game. "I'm very happy with the win," said Flick. "The team played very well, especially in the second half. We created a lot of chances and deserved to win."
Germany will next face Hungary in a friendly on Saturday. The game will be played in Budapest.
