Two of the state’s most successful programs will meet in the Class 2A state championship game Friday at Camping World Stadium in Orlando

When Bo Boone took over the Wesley Chapel football program in 2007, he knew all about the rich tradition of the program. What he didn’t know was how long it would take for his Wildcats to reach the pinnacle of success.

Roberts coach Matt Adkins knows all about Boone’s success at Wesley Chapel. Adkins was an assistant coach at Wiregrass Ranch when Boone’s Wildcats knocked the Bulls out of the playoffs in 2020.

Adkins is in his first season as head coach at Roberts, and he’s already led the Lions to the Class 2A state championship game. Roberts will face Wesley Chapel in the title game Friday at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.

The two teams have met once before in the playoffs, with Wesley Chapel winning 28-14 in the 2020 Class 2A region final

Both teams are coming into the championship game with plenty of momentum. Wesley Chapel has won 10 straight games, while Roberts has won nine in a row.

The Wildcats are led by senior quarterback Trent Grotjan, who has thrown for 2,500 yards and 30 touchdowns this season. Roberts is led by senior running back Jaheim Oatis, who has rushed for 1,500 yards and 25 touchdowns.

The game is sure to be a close one, and it could be decided by which team makes the fewest mistakes.

Roberts is making its first state championship game appearance since 2012, while Wesley Chapel is making its third appearance in the past four years.

Wesley Chapel is looking to win its second state championship in program history. The Wildcats won the Class 3A title in 2019.

Roberts is looking to win its first state championship since 2007.

The game will be televised live on Bally Sports Sun.
