Marlins' Cabrera excited for challenge of World Baseball Classic
Miami Marlins infielder Miguel Cabrera is eager to represent Venezuela in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
Cabrera, a two-time MVP and 11-time All-Star, is one of the most decorated players in Major League Baseball history. He is expected to play a key role for Venezuela, which is ranked No. 5 in the WBSC World Rankings.
Cabrera is excited for the challenge of playing in the WBC, which he believes is the most prestigious international baseball tournament in the world.
"It's an honor to represent my country," Cabrera said. "I'm going to go out there and play my hardest to help Venezuela win."
Cabrera is one of several Marlins players who will be participating in the WBC. Others include outfielder Avisail Garcia (Venezuela), infielder Jean Segura (Dominican Republic), and pitcher Sandy Alcantara (Dominican Republic).
The WBC will be held from March 8-21 in Japan, Taiwan, and the United States. Venezuela is scheduled to play its first game on March 11 against the Dominican Republic.
