Banana artist sued by man who slipped on peel
A man is suing the artist Maurizio Cattelan after he slipped on a banana peel that was part of an artwork.
The man, who has not been named, is seeking $350,000 in damages from Cattelan and the Guggenheim Museum, where the artwork was on display.
The lawsuit alleges that the museum was negligent in not providing adequate warning about the slippery floor.
The artwork, titled "Comedian," consists of a banana taped to a wall. It was on display at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City from September 2019 to December 2019.
On December 7, 2019, the man slipped on a banana peel that had fallen from the artwork. He suffered a broken hip and other injuries.
The lawsuit alleges that the museum was negligent in not providing adequate warning about the slippery floor. It also alleges that the museum failed to take reasonable steps to prevent people from slipping on the banana peel.
The Guggenheim Museum has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
