Yankees, Dodgers in Pitchers' Duel in 2024 World Series Game 1

Yankees, Dodgers Locked in Low-Scoring Affair

After a long and exciting regular season, the 2024 World Series is finally underway, with the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers facing off in Game 1. In a highly anticipated matchup between two of baseball's most storied franchises, the game has lived up to the hype so far, with both teams' pitchers putting on a masterful performance. Through the first four innings, neither team has been able to manufacture much offense, with the game still scoreless. The Yankees have managed just two hits off Dodgers' starter Tony Gonsolin, while the Dodgers have been held hitless by Yankees' ace Gerrit Cole. Gonsolin has been particularly impressive, striking out six batters in his four innings of work. Cole has been equally effective, allowing just one walk while striking out five.

Yankees Get First Hit in 5th Inning

The Yankees finally got their first hit of the game in the top of the fifth inning, when Aaron Judge singled to right field. However, Gonsolin was able to strand Judge on first, getting Gleyber Torres to ground out to end the inning. The Dodgers threatened in the bottom of the fifth, when Mookie Betts led off with a single and stole second base. However, Cole was able to retire the next three batters in order to keep the game scoreless.

Yankees Strike First in 6th

The Yankees finally broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning, when Anthony Rizzo hit a solo home run off Gonsolin. The home run was Rizzo's second of the postseason, and it gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead. The Dodgers came right back in the bottom of the sixth, when Will Smith hit a solo home run of his own off Cole. Smith's home run tied the game at 1-1. The game remains tied at 1-1 heading into the seventh inning.
