Ski World Cup Start: Who is there, where does it go, who is not there?

Sölden is ready to open the World Cup again

Sölden in Austria will once again host the opening races of the Alpine Ski World Cup in the 2022/23 season. On October 22nd and 23rd, the men and women's technical teams will open the season with two giant slalom races.

The big names will be there.

The big names are all on the start list. For example, in the women's field, Olympic champion Sara Hector (SWE), overall World Cup winner Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) and Petra Vlhova (SVK) will certainly be among the favorites.

In the men's field, last season's overall World Cup winner Marco Odermatt (SUI), Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (NOR) and Alexis Pinturault (FRA) will start as favourites.

Not there because of injury

However, some big names will be missing from the start. For example, in the women's field, Olympic champion Federica Brignone (ITA) will miss the season opener due to a right knee injury. In the men's field, Dominik Paris (ITA), who suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in August, will also miss the first race weekend of the season.

The races will take place on the Rettenbach Glacier

The races in Sölden will be held on the Rettenbach Glacier. The women's competition starts on Saturday, October 22, at 10:00 a.m. The first run of the men's competition will take place on Sunday, October 23, at 10:00 a.m. The second runs of both competitions will start at 1:00 p.m.
