70-year-old woman dies in car accident

On Monday afternoon (July 4, 2023) at around 5:45 p.m., an 85-year-old man was driving his Opel Insignia on the A61 in the direction of Koblenz between the Rheinböllen and Stromberg junctions.
According to initial information, the man was in the left lane, behind a truck. For reasons that are still unclear, he then swerved to the right, crossed the middle lane and subsequently crashed head-on into a Toyota Yaris in the right lane.
The 70-year-old Toyota driver from the Rhein-Hunsrück district was fatally injured in the collision. Despite immediate resuscitation measures, she died at the scene of the accident.
The 85-year-old Opel driver from the Mainz-Bingen district was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The motorway was completely closed for several hours as a result of the accident.
The public prosecutor's office ordered an expert opinion on the exact cause of the accident.
