UNLV Football Quarterback Matthew Sluka Named Mountain West Player of the Week
Sluka Leads Rebels to Historic Victory Over the Boise State Broncos
UNLV Rebels quarterback Matthew Sluka has been named Mountain West Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in the team's historic victory over the Boise State Broncos.
Sluka, a redshirt sophomore from San Diego, California, threw for 325 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown in the 38-35 win.
The win was UNLV's first over a Top 25 team since 2013, and Sluka's performance was a major factor in the victory.
Sluka completed 19 of 28 passes, with no interceptions. He also rushed for 19 yards on four carries, and caught a pass for 20 yards.
Sluka's performance was even more impressive considering that he was playing against one of the top defenses in the country. Boise State entered the game ranked 12th in the nation in total defense, and 13th in scoring defense.
Sluka's performance helped UNLV improve to 3-1 on the season, and 1-0 in the Mountain West Conference.
