Passenger Train Derails in Neunkirchen, Germany Leaving Several Injured
At least 9 injured in Neunkirchen, Wiebelskirchen train derailment
On Wednesday afternoon, a regional train derailed near Neunkirchen, Wiebelskirchen in western Germany. According to local authorities, the train was traveling from Saarbrücken to Koblenz when it derailed at around 4:30 p.m. The derailment caused several carriages to overturn, resulting in injuries to at least nine passengers.
Emergency services, including firefighters and police, responded to the scene to assist with rescue operations. The injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.
The cause of the derailment is still under investigation. A spokesperson for the German rail operator Deutsche Bahn said that the train was traveling at a speed of around 100 km/h (62 mph) when it derailed.
The derailment has caused significant disruption to rail services in the area. Deutsche Bahn has suspended all train services between Saarbrücken and Koblenz until further notice.
The incident comes just over a month after a high-speed train derailed in Bavaria, southern Germany, killing at least 5 people and injuring dozens more.
