Nottingham Forest Double Past Leicester to Move Into Top Five

Wood Brace Helps Forest Move Up

Nottingham Forest moved into the Premier League top five as Chris Wood scored twice against his former club Leicester to help secure a 2-0 victory.

The New Zealand striker gave Forest the lead just before halftime at the King Power Stadium when he tapped home Brennan Johnson's inch-perfect cross.

Wood then doubled the advantage in the 84th minute after being played in by Ryan Yates, finishing confidently past Danny Ward.

Victory saw Forest climb to fifth in the table, level on points with fourth-placed Manchester United and just three behind third-placed Manchester City.

Leicester, meanwhile, slipped to 14th after a second successive league defeat.

The Foxes dominated the opening exchanges, but it was Forest who took the lead against the run of play.

Johnson drifted in from the left and delivered an inch-perfect cross towards the near post, where Wood was on hand to tap home from close range.

Taiwo Awoniyi came close to adding a second for Forest shortly afterwards, but his low shot was well saved by Ward.

Leicester continued to press for an equaliser, but they struggled to create clear-cut chances against a well-organised Forest defence.

Wood almost doubled his tally just before the hour mark, but he fired wide from the edge of the area after being played in by Yates.

However, the striker made no mistake in the 84th minute when he was played in by Yates again, this time finishing confidently past Ward.

Victory was a major boost for Forest, who have now taken 13 points from their last six league games.

For Leicester, the defeat was a setback after they had won three of their previous four matches.
