No Possibility Ohtani will pitch in WS, Roberts says
There is no possibility of Shohei Ohtani pitching for the Los Angeles Angels in the World Series, manager Dave Roberts said.
Ohtani is the Angels' ace pitcher and best hitter, but he has not pitched since Sept. 23 due to a UCL injury in his pitching elbow. Roberts said that Ohtani will not be available to pitch in the World Series, even if the Angels advance that far.
"He's not going to pitch in the World Series," Roberts said. "There's no chance. He's not ready to pitch."
Ohtani has been one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball this season. He is 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 156 strikeouts in 130.1 innings pitched.
Despite his injury, Ohtani has continued to be a force at the plate. He is batting .257 with 46 home runs and 100 RBIs.
The Angels are currently in a tight race for the AL West division title. They are one game behind the Houston Astros with six games remaining in the regular season.
If the Angels win the AL West, they will face the winner of the AL East in the ALDS.
The World Series is scheduled to begin on Oct. 28.
