Anunoby Out Indefinitely with Hip Pointer
New York Knicks forward O.G. Anunoby has been diagnosed with a hip pointer injury and will be out indefinitely, the team announced Tuesday.
Anunoby suffered the injury during the Knicks' 122-115 loss to the Boston Celtics on Monday night. He left the game with 4:34 remaining in the third quarter and did not return.
An MRI on Tuesday confirmed the diagnosis, and Anunoby will now begin rehab. There is no timetable for his return.
This is a significant blow to the Knicks, who were already without Derrick Rose (knee) and Kemba Walker (knee). Anunoby has been one of the team's most consistent players this season, averaging 18.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.
In Anunoby's absence, the Knicks will likely turn to Quentin Grimes or Immanuel Quickley to start at shooting guard. Grimes has started 20 games this season and is averaging 11.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Quickley has started 11 games and is averaging 11.1 points and 3.8 assists per game.
The Knicks are currently 19-21 and in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. They will next play on Wednesday night at home against the Charlotte Hornets.
