Regionalliga West: Rot-Weiss Essen and MSV Duisburg favourites

Rot-Weiss Essen and MSV Duisburg are the favourites for promotion to the 3rd division in the Regionalliga West. Both clubs have a lot of experience at a higher level and have strengthened themselves well for the new season.

Rot-Weiss Essen

Rot-Weiss Essen finished third in the Regionalliga West last season and only narrowly missed out on promotion to the 3rd division. The club has a lot of experience at a higher level, having played in the 2nd Bundesliga for many years. Rot-Weiss Essen have also strengthened themselves well for the new season, signing several experienced players, including Kevin Behrens from Hansa Rostock and Simon Engelmann from Viktoria Köln.

MSV Duisburg

MSV Duisburg finished fourth in the Regionalliga West last season and, like Rot-Weiss Essen, only narrowly missed out on promotion to the 3rd division. The club also has a lot of experience at a higher level, having played in the 2nd Bundesliga for many years. MSV Duisburg have also strengthened themselves well for the new season, signing several experienced players, including Moritz Stoppelkamp from VfL Bochum and Vincent Vermeij from Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Other contenders

In addition to Rot-Weiss Essen and MSV Duisburg, there are several other clubs who could challenge for promotion to the 3rd division this season. These include Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, SV Sonsbeck and Wuppertaler SV. Rot-Weiß Oberhausen finished fifth in the Regionalliga West last season and have a strong squad, while SV Sonsbeck and Wuppertaler SV are both ambitious clubs who have made some good signings for the new season.
