The Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns both secured impressive victories in the first round of the NBA playoffs on Wednesday night. The Lakers defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 117-94, while the Suns routed the New Orleans Pelicans 112-97.
Lakers' Balanced Attack Powers Victory
The Lakers' victory was a team effort, with five players scoring in double figures. Anthony Davis led the way with 30 points and 23 rebounds, followed by LeBron James with 28 points and 10 assists. Russell Westbrook added 20 points, while Malik Monk and Carmelo Anthony chipped in with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
The Lakers were also dominant on the defensive end, holding the Grizzlies to just 35% shooting from the field. Memphis was led by Ja Morant's 22 points, but he was the only Grizzlies player to score more than 15 points.
Suns Continue Impressive Playoff Run
The Suns continued their impressive playoff run with a convincing victory over the Pelicans. Devin Booker led the way with 25 points, followed by Chris Paul with 23 points and Mikal Bridges with 20 points.
The Suns were also dominant on the defensive end, holding the Pelicans to just 41% shooting from the field. New Orleans was led by Brandon Ingram's 21 points, but he was the only Pelicans player to score more than 15 points.

The Lakers will face the Utah Jazz in the second round of the playoffs, while the Suns will face the Dallas Mavericks. Both series are expected to be competitive, but the Lakers and Suns are both considered to be contenders for the NBA championship.
