The Jacksonville Jaguars released their final injury report ahead of their preseason opener against the Las Vegas Raiders, and several key players will be sidelined.Quarterback Trevor Lawrence, running back Travis Etienne, and wide receiver Christian Kirk will all miss the game due to injuries. Lawrence is recovering from a foot injury, while Etienne is dealing with a hamstring injury.
Kirk, who was acquired in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals this offseason, is nursing an undisclosed injury.
Other Notable Injuries
In addition to the three aforementioned players, several other Jaguars will miss the preseason opener:- Tight end Evan Engram (calf)
- Defensive end Josh Allen (knee)
- Linebacker Foye Oluokun (knee)
- Cornerback Shaquill Griffin (hamstring)
- Safety Andrew Wingard (hamstring)
The Jaguars are hoping to get all of these players back healthy for the regular season, but their absences will be a significant challenge in the preseason.
Impact on Preseason Opener
The Jaguars will be without several of their top players in the preseason opener, which will give other players an opportunity to step up and make an impression. With Lawrence out, backup quarterback C.J. Beathard is expected to start the game. Beathard has played in 22 games in his career, starting nine, and has completed 63.2% of his passes for 2,054 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Etienne's absence will give running back James Robinson an opportunity to prove that he is ready to be the Jaguars' lead back. Robinson rushed for 1,070 yards and seven touchdowns last season, averaging 4.6 yards per carry.
Kirk's absence will open up opportunities for other wide receivers, such as Marvin Jones Jr., Zay Jones, and Laviska Shenault Jr.
The Jaguars will need to find a way to win the preseason opener without several of their key players, but it will also give other players a chance to show what they can do.
