The move came in response to recent statements made by Hungarian officials regarding Iran's nuclear program.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the ambassador was summoned to express Iran's "strong protest" against the "unfounded and provocative" remarks.

Hungary Accuses Iran of Nuclear Violations

The diplomatic spat stems from comments made by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who claimed that Iran was violating the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal.

Szijjártó accused Iran of enriching uranium beyond the agreed-upon limits and failing to cooperate with international inspectors.

Iran has vehemently denied these allegations, insisting that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes.

Nuclear Deal in Jeopardy

The summoning of the Hungarian ambassador is the latest sign of the deteriorating relationship between Iran and the West over the nuclear deal.

The deal, which was designed to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions in exchange for sanctions relief, has been on the brink of collapse since the United States withdrew in 2018.
