Hope says lessons learned from failed ODI series as Windies seek consolation win

West Indies must not dwell on the past as they seek to avoid a series whitewash in the final One-Day International (ODI) against South Africa at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada on Sunday.

The Caribbean side lost the first two matches of the three-match series, falling to defeats by eight wickets and five wickets, respectively.

Hope said his team must put the losses behind them and focus on the task at hand if they are to salvage some pride from the series.

"We have to learn from our mistakes and move on," Hope said. "We can't dwell on the past. We have to look forward to the next game and try to win it. We have to be positive and believe in ourselves.

Hope, who has scored 135 runs in the series so far, including a half-century in the second match, said the team must improve their batting in order to compete with the Proteas.

"We have to bat better," he said. "We have not been getting enough runs on the board. We need to bat for longer periods and score more runs. We have the talent in the team to do it, so we just need to go out there and do it.

The Windies will be boosted by the return of all-rounder Jason Holder, who missed the second ODI due to a hamstring injury. Holder is expected to add some much-needed experience and stability to the team.

South Africa, on the other hand, will be looking to complete a series sweep. The Proteas have been in impressive form in recent months, and they will be confident of extending their winning streak.

The match is scheduled to start at 9:30am Jamaica time.
