Gosens emotional: "Das frisst einen auf"
Nations League: Italy wins against Hungary - Gosens emotional after comeback
Italy celebrated a successful start to the Nations League with a 2-1 (1-0) win against Hungary on Tuesday evening. Robin Gosens made his comeback in the DFB jersey after almost a year and was visibly moved afterwards.
Gosens played through for 90 minutes and was involved in the opening goal by Nicolo Barella (30th minute). After the game, the 28-year-old was clearly relieved and fought back tears at times during the interview at RTL/ntv.
"The last few months have been very difficult for me. I'm just happy to be back on the pitch," Gosens said.
The fact that he was able to play through for the entire game also made the left-back proud: "I didn't think I could do it. But I bit my teeth together. That was important to me."
Gosens thanked his teammates for their support: "The boys helped me a lot. They gave me a lot of confidence."
National coach Hansi Flick was also full of praise for Gosens: "Robin played a very good game. He was very committed and aggressive in the duels. He also played very well with the ball."
With the win against Hungary, Italy took the lead in Group 3 of League A. On Saturday (8.45 p.m./RTL), the team will face England in the next Nations League game.
