"He deserved everything, but not such an end": Robin Gosens calls for a memorial for former Unioner
Former Union Berlin player Robin Gosens has called for a memorial to be built in honor of former teammate Christopher Trimmel, who passed away last week at the age of 29.
Gosens, who now plays for Atalanta in Italy, said that Trimmel was a "great player and a great person" who will be sadly missed.
Trimmel was a key member of the Union Berlin team that won promotion to the Bundesliga in 2019. He also made 13 appearances for the Austrian national team.
Gosens said that he was "shocked and saddened" to hear of Trimmel's death. "He was a great player and a great person," Gosens said. "He will be sadly missed."
Union Berlin has announced that they will be retiring Trimmel's number 29 jersey. The club has also said that they are planning to build a memorial to Trimmel at their stadium.
Gosens said that he believes a memorial to Trimmel is a fitting tribute to a player who gave so much to Union Berlin.
"He deserved everything, but not such an end," Gosens said. "He was a great player and a great person. He will be sadly missed."
