England coach Wiegman sees DFB team as a lucky bag
The German national soccer team remains mysterious for England national coach Sarina Wiegman ahead of the European Championship quarter-finals.
”They can play in different systems and have a lot of good individual players,” said the Dutchwoman on Tuesday in Brighton about the DFB selection. That’s why it’s hard to say exactly what to expect.
However, Wiegman does not want to make the DFB team the favorite in the quarter-finals on Wednesday (21:00 CEST) in Brentford. “I don’t think there is a clear favorite,” said the 52-year-old.
DFB selection has already shown weaknesses
Wiegman referred to the DFB team’s 2-1 defeat against Spain in the group stage. “They showed weaknesses there,” said the English coach. She also warned her team against underestimating the DFB selection. “They have a lot of experience. They know how to win tournaments.”
England, on the other hand, is considered a title favourite at the home European Championship. Wiegman’s team won all three group games and is one of the most in-form teams in the tournament.
