Duke Holds on to Defeat Boston College, 2-1
DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 1 Duke Blue Devils held on to defeat the Boston College Eagles, 2-1, in a hard-fought ACC matchup on Thursday night at Koskinen Stadium.
The Blue Devils (13-2-1, 7-1-1 ACC) got on the board first when Michelle Cooper scored in the 15th minute. The Eagles (8-6-2, 3-4-2 ACC) tied the game in the 35th minute on a goal by Olivia Vaughn. Duke regained the lead in the 55th minute when Caitlin Cosme scored the eventual game-winner.
Duke outshot Boston College, 15-9, and had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Sarah Piper made five saves in goal for the Blue Devils, while Abigail Levy made four saves for the Eagles.
Cooper Scores Early for Duke
The Blue Devils got off to a fast start when Cooper scored in the 15th minute. Cooper received a pass from Cosme and beat Levy to the lower right corner. It was Cooper's seventh goal of the season.
Eagles Tie the Game in the First Half
Boston College tied the game in the 35th minute when Vaughn scored her fourth goal of the season. Vaughn received a pass from Emma Rafferty and beat Piper to the lower left corner.
Cosme Scores Game-Winner in the Second Half
Duke regained the lead in the 55th minute when Cosme scored the eventual game-winner. Cosme received a pass from Cooper and beat Levy to the upper right corner. It was Cosme's fifth goal of the season.
Piper Makes Several Key Saves for Duke
Piper made several key saves in the second half to preserve the win for Duke. In the 65th minute, she made a diving save to stop a shot by Rafferty. In the 70th minute, she made another diving save to stop a shot by Vaughn.
Levy Keeps Eagles in the Game
Levy made four saves for Boston College, including a diving save in the 80th minute to stop a shot by Emily Asbille. However, Levy was unable to stop Cosme's game-winning goal.
