German Women's National Team Defeats England
England's women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to their German counterparts in a friendly match held at the sold-out Brentford Community Stadium on October 9
Christian Wück, the German coach, was pleased with his team's performance, stating, "I am very happy with the result. We played very well, and we deserved to win." The match was England's last before the Women's World Cup, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand next year.
England manager Sarina Wiegman stated, "It was a difficult game, and we didn't play as well as we can." She added, "We have a lot to work on before the World Cup, but I am confident that we can improve."
The first half of the match was evenly contested, with both teams having chances. It was Lina Magull of the German team who scored the first goal in the 39th minute on a pass from Jule Brand.
England had a great chance to tie the game in the 60th minute. Alessia Russo found herself alone in front of the German goal but was unable to finish. Just eight minutes later, Germany struck again when Lea Schüller scored.
England pressed for a goal in the final minutes of the match, but the German defense held firm. The 2-0 scoreline remained until the final whistle was blown. The German team was able to earn their first win against England since 2017.

The player of the match was German goalkeeper Merle Frohms. She made several key saves, including stopping an early penalty by England's Lauren James. Frohms, who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt, was a key factor in Germany's victory. She was able to direct her defensive line and organize the team to her advantage.
