Chiefs injury report: Smith being evaluated for concussion, status up in the air for Sunday
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is being evaluated for a concussion after taking a hit to the head in the fourth quarter of Saturday night's preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Smith was injured while trying to make a catch over the middle and was immediately taken to the locker room. He did not return to the game.
The Chiefs did not provide an update on Smith's condition after the game, but he will likely undergo further testing on Sunday to determine the severity of the injury.
If Smith is diagnosed with a concussion, he will be placed in the league's concussion protocol and will be required to sit out for at least one week. This would mean that he would miss the Chiefs' season opener against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 11.
Smith has been a key part of the Chiefs' offense since signing with the team in March. He is expected to play a major role in the Chiefs' passing game this season.
The Chiefs are already dealing with a number of injuries, including starting cornerback Rashad Fenton, who is out for the season with a torn ACL. If Smith is also forced to miss time, it would be a major blow to the Chiefs' offense.
The Chiefs will release an update on Smith's condition on Sunday.
