“Amsterdam” not missing: “Cora” on a short visit to Jena
“Cora” is a seven-meter-long model of a fin whale
On Monday, the model of a fin whale named “Cora” will be on display at the Optical Museum in Jena. The model is seven meters long and was created by artist Christoph Dahlhausen. It is part of the “Whales in the Wind” exhibition, which has been on display at the museum since April. The exhibition features models of different types of whales, as well as information about their biology and conservation. “Cora” is the largest model in the exhibition.
The model is made of fiberglass and resin
Dahlhausen spent two years creating the model. He used fiberglass and resin to create the whale’s body, and then painted it to resemble a real fin whale. The model is very realistic, and it even has baleen plates in its mouth. Baleen plates are used by fin whales to filter food out of the water.
The exhibition is open until 31 October
The “Whales in the Wind” exhibition is open until 31 October. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 5pm. Admission is €5 for adults and €3 for children.
