49ers Injury Report
Jimmy Garoppolo to Miss Multiple Weeks with High Ankle Sprain
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to miss multiple weeks after suffering a high ankle sprain in Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins. The injury occurred in the first quarter when Garoppolo was sacked by Dolphins defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah. Garoppolo was able to walk off the field under his own power, but he was later seen wearing a walking boot on his left foot.
Trey Lance to Start in Garoppolo's Absence
With Garoppolo out, Trey Lance will take over as the 49ers' starting quarterback. Lance, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has started two games in his career, both of which came last season. Lance completed 58.3% of his passes for 603 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions in those two starts.
Other Injuries
In addition to Garoppolo, the 49ers also have several other players who are dealing with injuries. Running back Elijah Mitchell is expected to miss multiple weeks with a knee injury. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is dealing with a hamstring injury, and his status for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles is uncertain.
The 49ers are now 2-2 on the season. They will face the Eagles on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
